천수답

비탈진 산 밑 다랑이마다
제 땅인 양 개망초들이 농사를 짓고 있다
날이 가물어 하늘은 푸르른데,
바짝 마른 천수답에서
아들 딸 자식에 손주들까지 번성하여
불볕더위에 보란 듯이
하얀 꽃밭을 이루었다
독사처럼 약 오른 땅 주인이
개망초가 징그럽다며 팥이라도 심어야겠다고
트렉타를 들이대자
거푸집 쓰러지듯 패가하는 개망초들,
비로소 되찾은 다랑이 논이 반갑다.

Rain-fed Paddy Field

In each terraced paddy field below the sloping hill
Fleabanes far as if it were their own land
The day is drought, the sky is blue
In the rain-fed paddy field scorched and parched
Sons, daughters, even grandchildren
Prospered proudly in the scorching heat
Building white flower-beds
The owner of the land angry like a poison snake,
Loathing fleabanes and wanting to plant adjuki beans
Pulled up the tractor
The fleabanes collapsed like a mold
The terraced paddy field, at last regained, is jubilant.
