야간비행·3

한때 내가 한 사랑에
동네 개 취급당한 적이 있다.
그러면서도 그녀를 잊지 못했다.

그녀와 있는 지구가 싫었다.
어디든 한 번 떠나면 돌아오지 않을
별나라로 가고 싶었다.

스스로 내 생애에 가장 슬프면서도
행복한 이별을 맞으려고
야간비행기에 탑승했다.

떠나고 싶은 나와
떠나고 싶지 않은 내가 있었다.
돌아오고 싶은 나와
머물 싶은 내가 탔다.

내리고 싶은 나와 어쩔 수 없이
지정된 좌석에 타고 가야만 하는
야간비행이었다.

혼자인 줄 알았는데 혼자가 아닌
옆의 나와 나와 같은 나와 나와 비슷한 나와
나와 같은 방향의 나의 나로 만원이었다.
인간은 모두 나와 비슷한 꿈들을 꾼다.

결국 야간비행의 나는 누구인가.
동네 개처럼 떠나지 못하는
늘 그리워 그녀 집 둘레를 돌고 돌던
도로 아미타불의 탑돌이인가.

어린왕자와 같이 가는 야간비행은
우리가 어렸을 때 잠시 꿔보는
꿈속에나 있는 것인가.

At one time I was treated like a neighborhood dog
For loving someone
Nevertheless I couldn’t forsake her

I hated the earth which I shared with her
I wanted to go to some star-country from which
I’d never return
I took a night flight

To meet my life’s most sad and yet happy farewell

There was the I that wanted to depart
And the I that didn’t want to depart
There was the I that wanted to return
And the I that wanted to stay

I wanted to get off the plane
Yet I had to take the assigned seat of the night flight

I thought I was alone but that was not the case
The I beside me, the I like me,
The I similar to me, my own I sharing the same
destination

Every human being dreams similar dreams like me

In the end who is the I of the night flight?
It is the one who, like the neighborhood dog, could not depart
Or the one who went round and round her house
With ever-burning yearning
Or the futile going round and round the pagoda
A night flight in the company of the young prince—
Does it exist only in a dream that we dream for a while
in childhood?
