딱따구리

뻘 뒤지는 어부처럼 삽질을 해댄다
삽날에 잘려진 시간이
껍질을 뚫고 나무속을 파고든다
박속을 끄집어내려 구멍을 내 듯 한 곳을 집중적으로 찔러댄다

벌레를 낚으려는지
새끼를 낳으려는지

서 있는 뻘 한그루와 부리가 맞닿는 정점에서
뼈 닳는 소리
들창을 돌아나가는 세레나데 같이
잎과 잎 사이 머뭇거리다
절벽 아래로 산산이 부서진다

겨드랑이 같은 오망한 집 하나 생긴다

비바람 피할 수 있는 곳을 장만한다는 것은
저렇게 수만 번 부딪쳐
주둥이 근처 센털이 닳아 짧아지고
뾰족한 부리가 뭉툭해지고
뼈가 녹고
몸이 야위어져 작아진다는 것

그러나 생은 뜬금없어
사그라진 살과 뼈가 만들어 낸 그 집에
처음 보는 오색뻐꾸기가 살아가기도 하는 것

Wood-peckers

It shovels like a fisherman digging up the silt field.
The time cut up by the shovel blade
Pierces the bark and penetrates into the wood.
It picks concentrating on one place
As when boring a hole to pull out the inside of the calabash

As if to catch insects
As if to deliver a baby

Bones loudly wear down at the peak where
An upright silt tree and a bill meet
Like a serenade that goes out through the skylight
They linger between the leaves
And shatter to pieces below the cliff

A weird house appears which resembles an armpit.

Building a place that can shelter one from rain and wind
Means hitting thousands of times
Coarse hairs near the bill
Wearing down and getting shorter
The pointed bill becoming dull
Bones melting
Bodies becoming thin and stocky

But life allows no other choice
In that house built by
Worn-down flesh and bone
A strange spotted cuckoo may reside.
