달둔*

은행나무 숲에서 꿈을 꾼다
천 년의 숲이다
노란잎들 떨어져 쌓인 그늘 아래
수세기를 거슬러 온 사람들이 우수수
잠에서 깨어난다

그대, 맨드라미 수북한 붉은 담장을
성큼 돌아갔는가
골짜기를 돌아 나온 세찬 바람에 누룩빛 얼굴을
씻으며 갔는가
덤불 헤치고 흐르는 낮은 물길 따라
구불구불 울며 갔는가

창창한 나무 사이로 길이 숨는다
꿈꾸듯 흔드는 묵은 가지 사이로
가을빛이 꽂힌다
달뜨는 저녁 아니어도
먼 잠에서 떨어져 나온 단풍별이
하염없이 쏟아지는
쏟아지는 소리에 잠을 깨는
속속들이 바람 머금은 
달둔이 운다

*달둔 - 강원도 홍천 방태산 남쪽 오지로 살둔, 월둔과 함께 삼둔三屯으로 불린다.

Daldoon*

I dream in a gingko forest
It's a forest a thousand years old
In the shade where yellow leaves have gathered
People wake from sleep
Who have traversed several centuries.

You have hastened around the purple hedge
Where cockscombs lay in heaps
You have gone cleansing your malt-colored face
In the fierce wind that had passed through the valley
You have gone along the shallow waterway
flowing through the shrub,
Meandering and wailing.

The road hides amid lush trees
The autumnal tints plunge among old branches
  wavering dreamily
Though the moon does not rise over the evening
The maple stars falling away from a remote slumber
Pour down endlessly.
And Daldoon wails in the wind,
Awakened from sleep by the pouring sound.

*Daldoon: a sequestered area south of Mt. Bangtae in Hongcheon, Kangwon province.
