삿갓섬
―남해 노도
그곳 삿갓섬에 가면
역사를 보관한 서점 터가 있다고 했다.
기록을 캐는 탐방길의 출발은
뉘의 결처럼 험난한 미로다.
나들목 파도가 반짝이는 속내가
바다 속 천 길 낭떠러지
으레, 역사의 굴곡이
대숲에서 부는 바람의 속내와 같아서
어제 왔던 바람이 오늘 불지는 않아서
조각배에 쓰러지는 사공과
다를 것이 뭐가 있었던가.
떨어진 동백꽃이 역사의 발길에 뭉개진들
서러움이, 서러움이
님 향한 눈물로 떨어진들
다른 것은 또 무엇인가.
역사는 퇴적되고 사라지는
기억의 모서리에 피는 한 낱 꿈이러니
그곳 삿갓섬에 가면
이조 어느 올곧은 선비의 서러운
기록만 울고 있을 뿐.

<Bamboo-Hat Island>삿갓섬
-Note on South Seas
If you go to Bamboo-Hat Island over there, they say,
There you'll find the site of a bookstore that keeps history.
The outset of the exploring paths in search of records
Is a tortuous maze resembling someone's texture.
The waves' true intent in glittering at the inlet
Is just like one thousand fathoms in the sea.
As a rule, history's curves are similar
To the intent of the wind snarling in the bamboo forest.
Yesterday's wind does not blow today.
What difference, if any, could you find there
From the ferryman collapsing in the boat?
As the fallen camellia flower is crushed by history's foot,
What other things could you detect
Even if sorrow falls as tear drops for the lover?
History is a mere dream blossoming at a corner of
Memory that accumulates and disappears.
When you go to Bamboo-Hat Island,
You'll only find a sad record of a straightforward scholar
Of the Lee Dynasty wailing there.
